Butcher Your Own Chicken for Thanksgiving

Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019

Each year we raise enough chickens or other poultry to serve for Thanksgiving. The flavor is always remarkable, no matter which birds we raise. This year it will be American Beauty Morans, as well as a few rare La Fleche chickens.

Smoke Salmon and
Other Foods

Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019

Join us as we fillet, brine, and smoke reefnet caught sockeye salmon. The process takes 2 full days, because we need to brine for 12 hours, then dry overnight, before we spend the day smoking. We will add tomatoes, asian pears, and anything else you might want to taste after an alder smoke. If you can only attend one day, make it Saturday when we do the smoking.

Jam Making with Nettles Farm Fruit

Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019

We will make seedless jam from our own blackberries, kiwis, and currants.

Expect to work from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with a lunch break. We will provide all  the jam making materials, and you will take home 2 half pint jars of jam. Please bring your own packed lunch. Class is limited to 8.

Let’s Build A Sauna!

Saturday, March 7&14, 2020

Nettles Farm needs a wood-fired sauna. We have a perfect spot in the forest that is secluded and welcoming. We have a wood burning heater, a Harvia 20 Pro, and a good idea of a design: 8′ x 10′ room with 2 benches, and an attached dressing room from which the firebox is fed. Outside and behind the sauna is an outdoor shower that includes hot water heated by a jacket around the stove.

Spend time helping to build it, and return over and over to harvest the fruit of your labors. Friends of Nettles Farm have unlimited use of the sauna whenever they are on Lummi Island, including those who live here.
